The Biological research of wood and it’s renewable material is what is referred to as wood science. Wood technology is now the way the tools are utilized in the processes of wood preservation. To be able to study wood it has to be compared to other products. Wood has many advantages and this technology takes the advantages and utilizes them. Some of these advantages include wood being a versatile material that can be used in a wide range of products. The rotting and decay of the timber products are caused by the moisture and the insects. Many methods are available in the treatment of wood one of the most common being the ACQ – alkaline copper Quaternary. As the name implies the preservative is made of copper products. Although being a good method to use for wood protection it has presents some few challenges. The chemical is highly corrosive to most metals, the chemical corrodes away galvanized fasteners and therefore only stainless steel is used. The concentration of the chemical that will be used to treat a piece of wood will depend on the where it is going to be used and the molecular structure of the wood. The level of chemical concentration will be determined by where the piece of wood is going to be put to use.
Many methods are being invented to protect the wood, and one of them is the copper metal method. The use of this method is fast being accepted because it is not corroding the metal fasteners. This process is what in other words called the micronized copper wood preservative. A high-pressure liquid that has the copper metal mixed in it is driven into the wood. The process eliminates the need to dissolve the copper as is done in earlier copper-based preservatives. When this process is used to treat timber the timber properties are increased highly. The time the wood products treated using this method last is longer other types of treatment.
The micronized copper preservative has proven to be highly effective in protecting the wood against fungal decay and termites. It is not corrosive to metals used in together with the product. The wood treated using this method last longer and is stronger.
